Amazon had some really good Kindle Cyber Monday deals. I wish I could have bought more, but I only have so big of a budget for books. Below are the books that I did pick up. A few I have already read, but borrowed from the Library. I picked up the Kindle version of Vox even though I own it in Hardcover. I paid full price for the Hardcover - the only book I have done that for this year. It was worth every penny.
The first booktuber that I started watching was Between Chapters. I think I enjoy her so much because she is more adult, I'm most likely still older. I also tend to agree with her reviews. I also appreciate that she understand the importance of audiobooks. This is more so now that she has her own child.
When she announced that she was doing a read-a-thon I decided I needed to join in. I cannot remember her doing it before. I also really like read-a-thons. It makes me feel connected to other people while reading. Sappy I know - but you try being a single mom.
The read-a-thon is only a week long and has five categories. I am going to actually have to try to finish this one. Although, the selections are pretty reasonable. You can also combine categories.
1. Read a book with a read and green cover - The Elites by Natasha Ngan
2. Read a book while listening to holiday music - The Liar's Key by Mark Lawrence
3. Read a warm and fuzzy book - Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N Holmberg
4. Read a short book - Ms. Marvel by G. Wilson
5. Read a holiday themed book - A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
As you can see I kept with the authors that I am currently reading - to a point. I did use the read-a-thon as a way of getting a little variety. Then I will be on to at least one new author. Do you see the irony with reading Mark Lawrence with holiday music? If you don't then you most likely have not read any of his books. I have also been meaning to read Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet. I love Charlie Holmberg. Ms. Marvel is another book I have been meaning to read. I want to start reading more graphic novels - although this may actually be considered a comic book. Finally, A Christmas Carol is the ultimate holiday themed book. I couldn't stomach the thought of reading one of my Christmas Kindle Romance freebies.
If you want to see the original directions to the read-a-thon you can watch Between Chapter's video below.
Waiting on Wednesday is an event hosted by Breaking the Spine. Each Wednesday I will feature a book with a set release date that I am anticipating.
I am excited about this feature for many reasons. For one, I hope that you find it helpful. Also, it will help me keep on my radar books that are releasing. I always feel like I am paying catch up on book releases. I hope that this helps me to keep more on top of things.
In keeping with my current reading of Mark Lawrence my Waiting on Wednesday book is One Word Kill. It is scheduled to release on May 1, 2019. It is Lawrence's first science fiction novel. At 193 pages it will be a short read. It will hopefully also be an interesting one. It sounds a bit like Stranger Things combined with Otherland.
The second book in the series already has a release date. It seems fair to combine them both together. Limited Wish is scheduled to release on June 6, 2019. It is the second book in the series. I love that they are both being published right after each other. There is no page count for Limited Wish, but it does make you wonder if they could have just combined them into one book. Lawrence's current publisher seems a little money hungry to me.
The good news is that both books will be available to read with Kindle Unlimited, or can be purchased for pre-release for $4.99 if you are an Amazon Prime member.
Mark Lawrence was awesome enough to let me know that Limited Wish is not the final book in the series. It will be a trilogy with the final book also releasing in 2019. Yeah! I love that the series is releasing so close together - you only get one book hangover. The only problem will be when there are so many of his books showing up as finalists in the Goodreads Choice Awards.
* Updated 11/2/2019 to reflect that Limited Wish is not the final book in the series.
