As I have said I have given up Monthly TBR lists to focus on just scheduling out five books at a time. I have not quite finished up the last five books. I am only about 150 pages into Foundation and the Empire, but it is dragging. I do not want to give it up. However, I have read two or three other books beyond my list and wanted to create another five book TBR list. When I am finally finished with Foundation and the Empire I will post a wrap up.
Do you remember when I did a look inside my Kindle? It was looking at the books I had first gotten and making sure that I either unhaul them (yes you can unhaul on a Kindle also) or read and review them. I have not finished any of the books. I finished it was time to buckle down and read them so I can move onto the next month. I own Twilight on Kindle and audiobook. I chose to read it on audiobook, although I can switch back and forth if I want to. I am a bit hesitant to how I will respond to this book. I have read it at least twenty times, but I have not picked it up in the last ten years.
Every Note Played is a book that I found from another book blogger (sorry I forgot to write down who). It is a fiction book written by a neuroscientist. That alone had me hooked. It is about a pianist who has ALS. I do not know much more about it. I am excited to read it though.
Yes, I actually have two paper books on my list this time. Shocking I know. However, I realized I had yet to actually start Thunderhead. I have no idea why I had not started reading it. It was time. I think Neal Shusterman is my favorite new to me author of 2018. I loved Scythe and cannot wait to read Thunderhead. I actually loved Unwind and wish I could read the rest of the series. But it had way too many triggers for me.
The Kiss Quotient is a book I heard about from Saturday Night Reader's Instagram and then from Pages and Pen's BookTube. It is about a 30 year old women with Asperger's that does predictive analysis but can not seem to maintain a relationship. Hello! Not only is it not YA it is me as the main character - well if you throw in three teenagers but I'm already YA. I am not much into romance and Twilight and The Kiss Quotient in the same five books might be too much. However, I had to read this book so much I refused to wait for it at the library and turned in all my amazon gift cards to get the paperback (cheaper than Kindle).
I can honestly not imagine making it to Astronomy. At least not completely. I will hopefully at least make Acceptable on all of my tests. However, I want to be ready just in case. I tried to create a list making all graphic novels. I failed miserably. I do not own any. I need to take a trip to the library to actually pick out paper versions of graphic novels. Although I do not even know what books I would pick up. Instead I turned to audiobooks.
A - Stars on the Cover - Technically The Science of Interstellar only has one star. However I still says that it counts. This is an audiobook that I own and have not read yet.
E - Book that has the word sky in the title - I do not own any audiobooks with sky in the title. So, I did a search through my Kindle books. I have actually read this book. However, I did not review it. I am working on reviewing all the Star Trek books.
O - Story that's set on a different planet/world - I am pushing things by selecting Red Mars. The audiobook is 23 hours long. Yet I have been meaning to read it for a while, and it meets the criteria. I might as well select it.
I have two more lists to create. I should hopefully have them up this week. How are you all doing?
I have decided to try something different for my monthly to read list. Instead of listing out specific books that I may (or most likely do not) get to, I am going to give myself monthly challenges instead. Last month I decided to do 30 books in 30 days. You can read about that here. For February I have decided that I am going to work on my NetGalley books. I need to get my review percentage up to 80%.
I actually have not been on NetGalley for very long. Even so, I have 15 books that I need to review. Most of the books I have are non fiction. I tend to read fiction when I read non fiction, so I will have some non NetGalley books read at the end of the month also. I am guessing there will be a lot of Patricia Briggs.
In order to get 80% of my backlog finished I would need to read 12 books in February. Since these are mostly non fiction books I do not see this happening. I think a more realistic goal will be 8 books from my NetGalley account. This will also probably mean that there will be another NetGalley catch up at some point later this year.
Some books I expect to finish this month are
Sugar by James Walvin (already started)
Educated by Tara Westover
Mentalligence by Kristen Lee (already started)
Don't Rush Me by Jackie May (already started)
Quirky by Melissa A Schilling
The Future of Humanity by Michio Kaku
Brain Food by Richard Cornish
Timekeepers by Simon Garfield
Even if you are not big into non fiction, I am sure to have some other great reviews this month. As you can see from above I tend to read multiple books at one time.
