April is Autism Awareness month. This is a good thing. This is a great thing. There needs to be more awareness. There needs to be more awareness of the great and amazing things that individuals with autism can do.
She has the capacity do do anything. She goes to school (which is pretty amazing in and of itself), earns great grades in accelerated classes, has been in several theater productions, and has her 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.
You can go and say that we are lucky. We are lucky. Everyone is lucky. You have to find your luck and find the positive. With all the good is the bad, the horrible, the nightmare experiences that we have been in due to Autism. There have been plenty. Yet today I want to bring awareness to the fact that autism is awesome. Autistic individuals are awesome. Not just in my family - everywhere. I have not met one autistic child or adult that I have not said wow that person is amazing, even if what they are amazing at is not easily recognized by society.
I honestly am not a big fan of the autism ribbon. I don't think the puzzle is for individuals who are autistic. For me it represents all the unique dynamics of individuals who are autistic. I am Autistic! I am also Awesome!
