Waiting on Wednesday is a series that is hosted by Breaking the Spine. Each Wednesday I will present a new book that I am waiting to be released. This is a way to help me to stay current on my favorite authors and to let you know what to expect in 2019 and beyond.
I know that November is still a long way out. However, I was so excited yesterday when the release date for the sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire was announced. I received the original book from a book box subscription.
I had no idea what to expect, but loved the cover and premise and dived right in. The book ended up being a five star read for me. I went back and read all of Ngan's work. I saw growth in her writing, but there was always talent and amazing story plots.
If you want a fun author to follow on Twitter you should check out Natasha Ngan's twitter. She is one of my favorite to follow. There have been teasers for the sequel for months now, the anticipation has been built. So, I kind of fan girled when the actual release date was announced. I love the cover and the title also.
If you have not read Girls of Paper and Fire I highly recommend it. It is about a girl who was taken against her will to be a consort for the king. There are themes of sexual assault that may trigger some, I thought they were handled well and if anything did not quite portray the emotional impact of the situation - but respected that decision by the author. The world is ruled by demons. Humans are the lowest social class with minimal rights and in the middle you have half demon/humans.
When the world is unjust the people fight back. The first book in the series was about them fighting back. The second book will be a continuation of this rebellion. Also, a continuation of on of my favorite love stories. There is just something so cute about Lei and Wren.
