Without the N.E.W.T.s reading challenge I fell less push to read. This is a good thing. I feel myself drawn more to books that will take more time to read. Those that I will have to dissect not just devour.
I have finished two of my five books. I still need to write a review for both. For now I will say add Vox to your TBR. It is an adult dystopian/contemporary mix that is very timely. An amazing debut novel that I am glad I picked up in hardcover. I will be reading it many times. Right now my teenage son has the book. I am interesting to see his take on it.
I am in the middle of The Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas. It is the third book in the series, and by far the longest. I am enjoying it, but I do not feel like there is more to the book to necessitate the extra pages. There always seems to be some catch at the end of her books, and I am only half way in so too far to really know. With the series ending, I wonder what it would be. My one note - how could they not have realized about Elaine. I knew long before they did. Even after they knew they didn't know. That was a bit too much for me.
I still have yet to start The Psychology of Time Travel or The Poppy War. Both are on Kindle and I won't start until I finish The Court of Wings and Ruin. So, I started a different audio book. I am listening to Becoming Brilliant. This is an educational psychology book that focuses on early and elementary school education. I am fascinated and frustrated by this book at the same time. I am moving at a slower pace since it is just a when I need an audio book read and not one of my current reads.
I have started writing some more also. I was very active when I was younger and won several awards. I planned on becoming an author. Then I had kids. Then I had special needs kids. Then I lost the ability to use that part of my brain and I got my degrees in psychology. Now that they are older I find myself needing to write again. It is nice having that part of myself back. I have used blogging and reading to fulfill that part of myself.
