It is a new year. It means new goals, new reading lists, and a brand new reading count.
It is now seven days into the new year and I have yet to finish a single book. There is nothing like starting the new year off with a reading slump. Well, it is not really a slump as much as I haven't finished any off the books I have started.
I am currently in the middle of three books. On my Kindle I am reading The Liar's Key by Mark Lawrence. It is the second book in The Red Queen's War Trilogy. I am 80% done. I blame this book for my lack of reading progress. I need to finish reading it before it is due back to the library and I am not all that into it. I have enjoyed reading Mark Lawrence. I enjoy his newest series the best. I am without a doubt looking forward to his science fiction series. However, this male fantasy lead is not doing it for me. It is hard enough being a female reader in a male dominated genre. It is worse when you are reading about the worse that the male species has to offer. I actually liked Prince Jal in the first book, but how long can you read about someone who is making no growth. What is the point?
I am also reading Prodigy by Marie Lu. I am loving this book. I would be finished by now if I had not paused it to finish The Liar's Key. I will get to go back to it soon, which makes me extremely happy.
I am also listening to Mirror Gate by Jeff Wheller on audible. I tend to always have an Audible book going, even if I am listening to the Kindle via Text to Speech. I picked the first book in the series randomly from the books I own. Thankfully the rest of the series is on Kindle Unlimited. I am making steady progress and am enjoying the book. All this despite the fact that I only have been putting it on a few minutes here and there.
The Wicked King comes out tomorrow. I do not have it on pre order and do not think I will be able to buy it this month. There were a few 50% off sales at Barnes and Nobel and a really good deal at Costco that took all my book money for the month. Considering my reading pace, I probably won't have time to squeeze it in this month anyway. Are you planning on picking it up? Are you one of the many who have already read it? What do you think?
